Trauma at the Gym

I have been waiting to write again until I had something interesting or amusing to tell you all. Well, today, I got my inspiration!!! Let me warn you, this will be another LONG entry!

I have been walking with Jackson and Nicholas a few times a week, but it is kind of tough to walk with a stroller and a dog! So, I decided to start going to the gym again. I attempted to go when John got home from work, but the gym was packed then. So, I decided that it might be time for me to let Nicholas go to the Child Care Center at the gym. Hmmmm…I thought that “Child Care Center” would sound better than Day Care, but it really doesn’t! Anyway, I called the CCC (I’ll just start abbreviating it now) yesterday and set up a time for Nicholas to go in. I asked for the director and had quite a few questions for her (I bet you can just IMAGINE!!!). I was all ready and thought that I was in control as we drove to the gym. But, once I got to the door of the Playroom (oh…YES…that sounds much better :0) I got real tense!! A lady came to the door to let us in. Yes, the door is locked and can only be opened from the inside. The handle is up high too so the kids can’t open in. As we entered the Playroom, there was a baby crying. Nicholas gets real upset when he hears other kids crying, so he gave me his super sad face (you know the one with the quivering lower lip) and started to cry. I was about to just turn around and leave right then. But, I decided that I should try to stick it out.

So, I started filling out the paperwork, having my ID copied, giving the special instructions for my precious baby boy and of course, asking the staff more questions! Then, it was time for me to leave and walk the 200 feet to cardio area. Any guesses on what happened then!? OH YES, I STARTED CRYING!! Nick was just staring up at me, sucking on his 2 fingers, and smiling. I tried to gather my composure, but had no luck! So, I kissed my baby goodbye and headed to the treadmill. I had to check in at the front desk. There was really no point in trying to hide the sobbing. The girl at the front desk recognized me from when I used to come when I was really pregnant. She asked if it was my first time leaving the baby in the Playroom and all I could do was nod. She came around and gave me a hug and told me to enjoy my workout time while I can. Like Nicholas, once I get crying, it is so hard to stop. So, there I was, on the treadmill running and crying!

Of course, I was staring at the door that leads to the Playroom. I noticed that a lady was coming in with her head down. As she got on the treadmill next to me, I noticed that she too, was crying! As I took a closer look, it was my gym friend Susan! Some of you might remember Susan from the weekly pregnancy email updates. She was the fellow Pregasaurus that I used to workout with. We would run on the treadmill and cry together while we were pregnant and here we were doing it AGAIN! I said “hi” and asked if it was her first day back at the gym too. She nodded (oh yes, she was SOBBING too). Once we both calmed down and laughed at ourselves and our craziness, we set a goal. We would not let each other go and check on our sons! We wanted to run 45 minutes, so we knew it would be tough. But, you will be so proud, WE BOTH DID IT!! As we headed back to the Playroom to get our boys, we made plans of meeting up to work out again on Monday. Susan’s son was born in January, so he is 4 months now. Apparently he and Nicholas played and talked with each other the whole time!! As usual Nicholas made everything ok; he gave me the biggest smile and squeal when I came in the door! That’s my boy, taking care of his Mommy as usual! So, we’ll see if things go any better on Monday!!!

Jackson had his fair share of trauma yesterday!! I noticed that he was limping and holding his left front foot in the air. When I looked at his paw, I noticed that his due-claw (I don’t know how to spell it, but it is the claw that is farther up his leg a bit) was broken and hanging off. So, we headed to the Vet. Jackson was freaking out when any of the technicians came near him. So, he had to be taken to the back so more people could help hold him still (any guesses of how happy I was about that!?). They trimmed his claw real short and bandaged it up. So, out comes my poor dog walking on 3 legs!! He has to have his bandage on until Sunday. So, Jackson is hopping around on 3 legs and milking this for it’s worth (NO idea where he gets that from!!! HAHA). Poor guy! Of course, I have taken pictures to show you all! As you can tell from Nick's pictures, he has officially found his hands:0) He reaches out for everything and then puts it right in his mouth. He is also teething, so he sucks and chews on anything he can get his mouth on. One of his favorite things to teethe on is his arms (to the point of brusing himself!! You can see it in the pictures on his wrists.). I am trying to break that habit very quickly!! Take care! More (trauma) soon…

Our Little Balding Boy

Well…we are entering week 20 of Nicholas being with us (well...actually much more if you count the 8 months of our pregnancy :0)!!! What a fun and eventful 20 weeks it has been. Nicholas is getting more of a personality every day. We saw a newborn the other day and I forgot how they literally just sit there. No expressions at all! I love that Nick is doing more things now…it is so much fun :0) He is experiencing some reverse male pattern baldness!!! I think that it is SO noticeable because of the amount of hair he has. He has lost a ton of hair on his left side and the back of his head from moving it back and forth when he sleeps. He is beginning to lose it on the right side now. He still has a ton of hair on the top of his head, so it looks like he has a real comb over:0) At first I was sad (imagine that…me getting sappy over something Nicholas goes through!!!), but now it is pretty funny! Although, I do hope that he gets his hair back soon.

We are still trying new foods. Nicholas sits in his high chair while we eat dinner and when he eats his breakfast and dinner. I love to see him in his high chair because he looks so small it in :0) Any little thing that I can do to hold on to him being a little baby, right!? HAHA Nick tried carrots for the first time today. Judging by how fast they came back up, it seems that he has inherited my taste for vegetables…haha!! We’ll try them for a few more days and then we’ll try another fruit. He really loves his rice cereal and applesauce now. Nicholas can hold his bottle now too :0) He has to have some grape juice to help resolve some issues that he is having with starting solid foods...I'll let you figure it out on your own ;0) Nick is constantly chewing on his hands and whatever he can get in his mouth since he is teething.
Today is Jackson’s 2 year adoption anniversary :0) He had a few friends over for a BBQ yesterday to celebrate. They enjoyed some steak and Frosty Paws ice cream :0) Hope everyone is doing well :0) More soon…

19 Weeks!!!!

I just wanted to do a quick update. Nicholas is doing great :0) He is starting to like his rice cereal and is now moving on to fruits and veggies. We started applesauce yesterday and he didn’t like it too much. He liked it a bit better today :0) In a few days, we’ll introduce his first vegetable. I wonder if he will be like his mom or his dad when it comes to eating vegetables!? Nick still loves rolling over (he’s never near the steps by the way!!! Just wanted to clear that up for a few people!). He was rolling last night and he rolled onto Jackson, who was just trying to play with his duck. So, of course, I took pictures. I also posted a picture of Nick’s new favorite sleeping position :0) Sorry so short…Nicholas would like some attention!!! More soon…

First Solid Foods

Before Nick Tried His New Food

First Taste of Rice Cereal

YUMM :0)

Nicholas had his 4 month checkup on Tuesday. He weighs 15 pounds and is 25 inches. He hit a major growth spurt since his last appointment. Nick’s pediatrician said that it was time to start him on solid foods. We start with Rice Cereal and then add new foods (like those yummy peas and carrots...haha) every 4-5 days. I can’t believe that it is time for solid foods…he’s growing up too fast!! The appointment went well until it was time for the shots. I thought it wouldn’t be as bad as the last time, but I was wrong!! You see, Nicholas cries tears now, so it was 100 times worse!!! He was fine when the doctor was in with him. He was smiling, laughing, and playing with the doctor. But, the minute the nurse came in with the shots, he went crazy. He was screaming and flailing all over the place. So, it was horrible. I even had to walk him around for a few minutes before I could even get him in his seat. I had to hold him pretty much the whole day because he was feeling so bad :0( I had my first Pampered Chef show since I had Nick that night, so John took over holding him when I left.

We waited until today to try solid foods with Nicholas since he was still feeling pretty bad yesterday. I didn’t want to mess him up even more. It went pretty much how I thought it would. Nick really didn’t know what to do with the new food or the spoon. He really didn’t care for the Rice Cereal this morning, but we are going to try it again tonight. He kept pushing the food out of his mouth…it was pretty cute (aren’t you SHOCKED that I though something Nicholas did was cute!? :0)

We met with the hand surgeon today. Luckily, I DO NOT have to have surgery :0) I just need to go to physical therapy. WAHOOO Hope you like the pictures!! More soon…

Nick's First Easter

Nick's Easter Outfit
Nick's Easter Basket (Looks reasonable right!?)

All of Nick's Presents from the Easter Bunny!!!

WOW!!!

Jackson's Easter Bunny Gifts

Taking His Treats Out

We had a wonderful Easter with my parents :0) As you can tell from the pictures, the Easter Bunny (you know...the one(s) from Maryland :0) was very good to Nicholas and Jackson!!! I think he was making up for Santa since Nick was only a few days old at Christmas!!! I can't wait to see what Santa brings this year seeing what the Easter Bunny brought!!! Easter morning Nicholas woke up very chatty, so I was prepared for him to be a handful in church. But, he was so good!!! He just looked around at everything and eventually fell asleep. John went snowboarding after church so Nicholas and I just hung around the house with my parents. We had a nice Easter dinner at a Brewery downtown. My parents left today, but we know we’ll see them soon :0)

Nicholas has his 4 month doctor’s appointment tomorrow (he’ll be 18 weeks tomorrow…it’s crazy). Yes, he is getting shots, so check back for my story about that fiasco tomorrow!! Last week was an eventful week for Nick. He can completely roll all the way over now. Anytime he is lying down, he is rolling over. He can hold his head up for a long time when he is on his tummy. Getting him to bed is quite the chore now. Nick just rolls around his crib…even in his sleep!!! He is up most of the day now except for a few short naps (30 minutes or less) here and there. He is quite talkative when he’s up. He also thinks that he is pretty funny :0) He laughs at pretty much everything he does from sneezing to rolling!! Movie time…I’ll write more tomorrow!!!

The Easter Egg Hunt

Well, Nicholas fell asleep right before the Easter Egg Hunt began! But, I took pictures anyway :0) He woke up at the end of the Hunt, but wasn’t too cooperative for pictures since he just woke up. Once he was up and happy, Nick had fun playing with the other children. It was fun to see him interact with other babies and children. He is very social already (where do you think that he gets that from!? Definitely his Daddy…haha :0) He was talking and laughing up a storm with the other kids. Enjoy the pictures of Nicholas at the Easter Egg Hunt :0)

HAVE A HAPPY EASTER :0)

4 Months Tomorrow!!

Like Father, Like Son :0)
Well…my parents came into town yesterday. They are headed to Las Vegas right now to look at houses :0) Anyway, Nicholas enjoyed his day with his Grandparents and he’s glad they’ll be back in time for his first Easter!! Nick is doing great…just growing and laughing more and more. He is still getting up a few times during the night to eat. Hopefully, he’ll go back to sleeping through the night again soon :0) Nicholas is staying up more during the day and he is really getting into playing with his toys. He also loves when I read to him (good thing too…I have thousands of books from my classroom in the basement!! HAHA) and he likes to watch some TV too. He seems to like the colors and movements on the TV. He really loves The Price is Right with all the blinking lights!

I, on the other hand, am having MORE medical issues! We are waiting to get my test results from my liver issue back (I am not sure if I have mentioned it before). Basically, my liver functions have been elevated since Nicholas was born. It is odd that they weren't elevated when I had PIH/Toxemia, but they are now. Oh well! I just found out yesterday that I have to have surgery on my finger (the one I hurt when I fell UP the stairs…remember that story!?)!!!! I guess I broke my finger and then part of the bone chipped off and is stuck in my knuckle. So, I can’t straighten it. Yep, I am walking around with my middle finger sticking up…haha! I am not very happy about having surgery, but I guess I should get it fixed. It will just be interesting having surgery and recovering with an infant!!!
I am taking Nick for his 4 month pictures tomorrow, so I am sure that I will post some tomorrow or the next day. Hope everyone is doing well :0) Since that it is hard to type with a broken finger…I’ll write more later!

Nick Loves New York :0)

Nicholas is almost 4 months!! I don’t even know where the time has gone! He is getting bigger and CUTER every day :0) He is talking, laughing, and playing more and more. Nick has also started to notice Jackson more. He smiles at him and is starting to reach out for him. Of course, Jackson loves the attention :0) My parents are coming in on Tuesday, so I am sure that we will have tons of pictures to post from their visit and especially Nick’s first Easter:0) Nick’s Aunt Morgan (who lives in NYC) sent him a few outfits so I took some pics of him in one today. He really doesn't like getting his picture taken...can't you tell ;0)
More soon…

I bet you were expecting this since I could not take Nick to see Santa since he was only a few days old!! I took Nicholas to see the Easter Bunny yesterday! He loved the bunny...he just laughed and laughed :0)

Our Talented 16-Week Old :0)

Disclaimer: (Kris…this is for you!!!) As you all know, I LOVE my husband! He was nothing but WONDERFUL throughout the entire pregnancy, my 3 weeks of bed rest, and everyday since Nicholas was born. He also gets up everyday and goes to work, so I can stay home with Nick!!! But, he does some things that I feel are worthy of being posted on the blog. Keep in mind I post the dumb things that I do on here too! That being said…here is a funny (not meant to be snide at ALL) “John” story.

Nicholas was having a rough day yesterday. He is going through another growth-spurt, so he was quite clingy and didn’t want to be put down at all. So, John took him for a bit when he got home to give me a break. We took turns holding Nicholas all night. John went to change Nick and then brought him out in the living room. Nick was freaking out!!!

Ok, so here is what I was told by John about the crying situation and then I will tell you what REALLY happened :0) Hopefully, it isn’t too hard to follow!!

This is what John said when he came out with a screaming Nicholas, “Can you take Nicholas for a bit to see if you can calm him down? You are so great with him!!! You can always get him to calm down.” I asked what happened and John said, “He just started freaking out!” So, of course, I took my baby and did my thing, and calmed him down. I should have noticed that it took longer than usual to calm him down!! Meanwhile, John took Jackson out for quite the long playtime. Once Nick was asleep, John wanted him back. He loves to hold him when he is sleeping peacefully (thanks to me…remember!?)!!

So, this is what I find out later in the night…

John had taken Nicholas to his room to change him. John had Nick sitting up in his crib. Apparently, Nick spazzed out and fell back and bounced his head off his mattress. Now, you might be wondering like me, why wasn’t John holding Nicholas well enough that he wouldn’t fall!? That is a good question...HAHA! I mean, I have never let Nicholas fall off the couch or anything!!! Also, what possessed John to come out and act as if he had NO IDEA why Nick was freaking out!? Oooohhhh John!!! He is quite sneaky!!!

Nicholas has recovered well from his incident last night. I put him in his crib when I took Jackson out this morning. See…I have learned my lesson about leaving him on the couch!!! When I came inside, Nick was just talking away in his crib. So, I decided that I would try to eat my breakfast. Then, it got silent. Sometimes, this means that he has rolled over onto his stomach. So, I went in to check on Nicholas. I found him turned around and playing (well eating really) with his animals. He loves to put everything in his mouth for a taste these days :0) Of course, I took some pictures for you all to enjoy! More soon…
